Today students set up their aquariums with water and and a bubbler. They will have to design an habitat for their fish this week. One group is designing a platform for a bass. We are waiting for an education permit so we can keep him in the classroom.
The students are using one inch PVC pipe to build the platform, It will support rocks. Not sure what it will look like yet but they want to add plants and have them grow up through the platform. Interesting concept. Tomorrow I will bring them one inch 90 degree elbows and one inch T's. If this works we will build a couple more.
Some students will use grow beds to help keep their aquariums clean - especially the turtle tank. Turtles are really dirty and last year the grow bed really helped keep the water clean. I only allow one turtle per term. I am not a favorite of turtles but the students like them.
This is a great project but it is also expensive. Some teachers have their students use 2 liter bottles and then use minnows and betas. It is a lot cheaper. It depends on your room and budget.
